CROP’s current program, Inside Solutions, graduated three cohorts at the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, CA. The program’s creation was a grassroots effort lead by Ted Gray and Eugene Dey as well as other notable Team members while they were serving time at the CTF facility. The programs offer specialized training for long-term offenders who have proven to be high achievers. Each participant in these programs will complete the requirements to become an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counselor. CROP candidates for internship and AOD certification begin their journey with an impressive educational portfolio that spans 90 college units. Candidates can then enter the Palo Verde College, Alcohol and Drug Studies (ADS) program graduates are the candidates for the Inside Solutions programs.

These new counselors will work within the inmate community as agents of change helping their peers overcome the challenges of addiction while assisting in their rehabilitation. By developing counselors from within the prison population, the program has not only helped to address the need for additional counseling in the prison but has created counselors that can connect with prisoners in a deeper way through their shared experiences. Inside Solutions counselors are also members of the incarcerated population which allows them to offer support 24/7 and also to have a strong prosocial impact on the prison culture.
